Meet the creator of the
"TETRAHEDRON"

Michael Chambers

Michael Chambers

Skydive New England stalwart Michael Chambers has been skydiving hard since his first jump nearly ten years ago. Currently he holds the position of S&TA for his home dropzone in southern Maine.

Over the years Mike noticed jumpers having trouble seeing the windsock in light wind conditions or when it became bleached out.

Having seen the design at various municiple airports, Mike decided to try and correct the problem.

As part of his constant effort to improve safety Michael built a "Tetrahedron" ( a polyhedron with four faces) out of aluminum and steel. Placed on a ball-bearing caster welded to a post, the weight and balance is corrected until the device points into the wind with the slighest breeze.

Once in place it proved a huge success. Skydivers as well as Jumppilots found they could tell the wind direction well before they had to enter the landing pattern.
